Indigo Girls

Saw the Indigo Girls at the Portland Zoo last night.

I didn't get there early enough to make a nice area to sit.
On one hand it means there's no 'base of operations' - I can't just sit back and enjoy the night. On the other hand it means we could walk up to the front and see them perform a good part of their show up close, which we did. It was interesting to see it up close. When we walked around a little later, it seemed they were too far away to be enjoyable. We'd already been spoiled by the close proximity!

Other really great things about the show - I got a G R E A T parking place by chance, the weather was excellent, and I can now feel good that I've seen the Indigo Girls in concert. Thanks go out to MFJ for the show!

If I go to the Zoo for a concert again, I'll either get there early enough to find a good place to sit with blankets and low chairs and food and a good book to read. Or, I'll go there at the last minute, carry nothing, and walk up to the front to see the show from there.

Start the Day with a Smile...

Wouldn't you know, this morning after I make a post saying I'm not going to post, I have something to post. It must be the commitment to a schedule I subconsciously balk at. Also it wasn't so hot last night. Anyhooooooo....

This video has already gone viral so you may have seen it. It was posted on Sunday and today is Friday. During the week its been viewed 1,349,213 times.

Sometimes it seems like the world is filled with sadness, despair, greed, selfishness, war, pain, hopelessness, and fear. This video reminds me there is joy and happiness in small corners of the world I don't even see.
We should continue to strive so everyone has a chance to share their joy, celebrate life, and shine a light on love.
Its a 'feel good' video.

Have a great day and Let Your Light Shine! :)

I'm on Blogation

Hello friends and faithful readers...
I'm on blogation for a while.
Had you noticed already? Yes, I wish I'd mentioned it before.
Just so you know...in July I've been focused on scanning old family photos. In one four day period I scanned over 2000 photos. That project doesn't seem like it'll ever end!
Its also too hot. I don't like excessive heat.
MFJ said "Oh no - there are her feet again", so I've put a new picture up for this entry. Its from LittleGirlBlue's Flickr page
Until I'm back to regular blogging (which could be at any time), if something super interesting happens I'll be sure to write about it.

Take good care of yourself and enjoy (be enthusiastic about, or accept) every moment of your day!

:)

Socks

In 1968 little girls wore ankle socks. On special occasions, there would be frills on the ankle socks.
When I was in 6th grade I looked around and noticed I was the only girl still wearing ankle socks. Everyone else had 'graduated' to knee highs.
I've had sock issues ever since.

Another Life Lesson from Tennis

Another great Wimbledon Men's Final!! Last year it was Federer vs Nadal, and this year it was Federer vs Roddick.
Andy Roddick played a fantastic match. In fact, he seemed more consistent than Federer over the whole match. There were only two small moments where Roddick made mistakes that turned the tide. The first was in the second set tiebreak, which will be written about a lot and second, of course, the final point where Roddick's serve was finally broken.
I would have felt bad for either player to have lost. In the final set, Roddick served second so he was always 'catching up'. He had to maintain focus and determination while fighting just to stay even. I have admiration for him.
And Federer was gong for a record-breaking 15 Grand Slam Championships.

Here's something I don't understand...Top level athletes have learned to be so in control of their emotions during a match, I wonder why they get so sad and upset if they lose. I mean, I would too, but I don't have their mental determination. I would imagine that if they can teach themselves to shrug off a mistake during a match, they'd be able to shrug off a loss. I'm always surprised that its not as easy as I'd think. Then again, they do start competing again so its not like it takes them completely out - maybe its unrealistic to expect them to get over it so quickly.

The life lesson I learned in this match:
In the 25th game of the 5th set, Roddick slipped a bit on the torn up turf, Roger, we assume, took his eye off the ball just long enough to notice Roddick - and then missed his next volley.
The key to life, and a winning tennis game, is that you have to keep your eye on the ball while at the same time be aware of your opponent. You can't focus exclusively on your opponent or you'll never hit the ball. You can't focus exclusively on the ball or you won't anticipate your opponent's moves. Its a balancing act. Very tough.
The same is true in life. Its important to stay focused on the goal, but be aware of my 'opponent'. In life the environment isn't strictly competitive, so the 'opponent' might be less obvious. My opponent could be fear, laziness, or frustration. It might even be the current economic climate, or a specific project.
In any event, success can be found when I find the right balance of focus and awareness; focus on the goal, awareness of the surrounding environment.

Havin' a laugh...

Classic line:

From The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on 07/02/2009 in reference to Mark Sanford's continued confessions of adultery.

I'll be looking for a reason to say that to someone in the next few days. Scrumpdillyicious.

Thursday Update

My life would be very different were I the winner of the current Oregon Lottery Megabucks jackpot. I'd buy a condo on Lake Washington, go back to school at the University of Washington, give money to niece and nephew for school, and set up a scholarship or chartable foundation.
Fingers crossed!

Link Within Widget added

Just added a widget to the web page called Link Within. It adds links to three 'related' posts in your blog. Kinda cool.
