Did the Surge work?

The press and the Bush administration and the John McCain campaign have declared the surge a success.

I think they're a little premature. There have been other slowdowns in violence in Iraq only to be followed by more rounds of violence.

I expect that having more soldiers in Iraq did make a difference, but did it make a lasting difference? That's the question.
