On Sunday I watched a mix of live and taped sports events
53 KG weight class, women's weightlifting.
I'm not interested in weightlifting generally, but, it was fun to watch a small amount for a change. The American gal was very happy to have participated, I assume expecting she wouldn't be in contention for a medal. That's the Olympic spirit.
Eventing - Dressage.
Well, I don't think I like this sport. I feel bad for the horse. They go around the ring with their head down and don't look happy. I'm one of those people that think animals are equal to humans. And I take things very seriously. When I imagine what a person would say to defend the sport (the horses like it, they are treated very well, and they're better off than if they were free and wild), it would sound to me like the same things slaveholders might have said to justify owning slaves. I just don't feel good about it, and no amount of justification would make me feel okay about it. I don't think I'll watch it anymore.
Women's Team Archery - South Korea vs China Gold Medal Match
It turns out South Korea has won 5 golds in the past 5 Olympics in this event. They dominate. And, sure enough they did. I'm glad the Chinese came in second, because really, with the South Korean reputation, everyone in the world must know its a battle for second. What can you do?
United Airlines Commercials -
I've noticed these commercials lately - they're very artistic and beautiful to look at. Its a new campaign called "Its Time To Fly". The ad agency is Barrie D'Rozario Murphy/Minneapolis. I've seen "The Sea Orchestra" which was beautiful, intricate, creative, and really achieved a feeling of serenity. It was made by two animators in South Africa who collectively call themselves Shy The Sun.

I also watched NBC's prime time coverage where I saw the girls gymnastics team in the team qualifying event - struggling, and the US Men's 4x100 relay - thrilling finish!
