I don't have sophisticated and nuanced understandings of international politics, I don't know history on any deep level, and my views are somewhat simplistic, optimistic, and naieve. But, I know what I see people doing every day, and I know how people react when they have nothing to lose or when they feel belittled and devalued. That's the understanding we should bring to our foreign policy discussions. 99% of the world's people are happy to live and let live if they are safe and treated with respect and dignity. Why do we have to live our lives at the behest of the 1% who are greedy, power hungry, and angry? Why do we allow ourselves to be ruled by the extremes?
Anyway - I don't like waking up to headlines that say...
"US and Czechs to sign radar deal despite opposition" (Reuters) - the United States wants to install a missile defense radar in the Czech Republic and put 10 interceptor rockets in Poland. The defense shield is to protect European and United States allies from threats from 'rogue states' such as Iran. Russia views this as a threat and said it will aim its nuclear missiles at central Europe if the shield is deployed.
"Iran warns US as missiles tested" (ITV.com, UK) - Iran has test fired nine missiles as a warning to the US and Israel that it is ready to retaliate if attacked over its nuclear programmes.
That's all for now.
